mis·no·mer
n.
- An error in naming a person or place.
-
- Application of a wrong name.
- A name wrongly or unsuitably applied to a person or an object.
A few weeks ago, I was watching Baseball Tonight, and John Kruk said:
One of the biggest misnomers in baseball is that left-handed hitters can’t hit left-handed pitchers.
I assumed it was just Kruk’s individual stupidity, but now I am watching the World Cup as I work, and I just head Dave O’Brien say:
The notion that you can’t use your hands in soccer is somewhat of a misnomer.
Wow.
